Technical notes...If you like this, I strongly recommend downloading and checking out the full-sized version of it, because a lot of the detail is lost at even the "fullsize" resolution. Usually I end up getting bored and slapdashing things together, but this time I actually made a long-term concentrated effort to make sure everything was just how I wanted it. Probably about fifty hours in all and twenty layers. I played a lot with effect layers this time to get the look I wanted with the colors and shadows and especially the fire bits.
Content notes...As usual, I put way too much thought into a fanart. The idea behind this came when I was mulling boredly over Death Note, as I occasionally do when I'm mechanically shrinkwrapping books, and it occurred to me that basically the entire story, and all the horrible tragedies therein, are basically a result of Ryuk wanting to be entertained. So, yeah. I chose the acts and costumes and facepaint and basically everything for each of the characters that I included for specific reasons, but I'm too lazy to take the time to explain it all, so feel free to talk amongst yourselves. Clarification: L is indeed in there twice, or in two views, I guess, because of scale difficulties I was having in the layout. That is not BB. Another clarification: No, Matt is not in this picture. No, that was not a mistake. No, I still do not think he should have been added.
It's scaring the hell out of me but I can't look away... who's that in the back? B?

In the back? I'm not sure who you mean specifically, but clockwise from Ryuk it's Light, Halle, Near on the hand balance, L on the wire walk, Mikami and Takada on the trapeze, Mello, Matsuda, and Misa. I haven't drawn most of them before lol.
Oh, unless you mean the silhouette...that's just L again. I couldn't figure out how to get him both close up and clearly wirewalking because the scale just wasn't working, so I ended up with him technically in the picture twice lol.

Holy crap. o_o I mean it, holy crap. This is amazing. Everything is just so twisted and fun and creepy. Near looks great, and I like how you had him balancing on dice while holding a rubix cube with his feet. And L behind him and in Mello's fire, while a technical move, overall fit. It gave it a sense of completion. Speaking of Mello...I adore his costume, and how you made him the fire-breather. It just works so well, and the fact that you've translated his scar into henna and have it continue in the costume looks great. Halle, though rather unnoticable, looks very good as a snake charmer, and it's not entirely out of character. And of course, Misa and Matsuda as good-to-honest clowns is adorable.
Light looks absolutely devious. He excudes this sort of arrogance and pride that's just right. (The fact he's juggling apples though, is quite amusing.) Takada and Mikami as acrobats work wonderfully, considering the back-and-forth stuff they have to do. I have to say though, Takada's makeup is pretty frightening. *shivers* And last but not least, Ryuk. His skin seems a tad too dark, but overall, him as the ringmaster looks great. He's like the joker he's always been.
Overall, I ADORE this picture. The parts played work with the characters, and everything just seems to jump off the page. It seems like a goodness-to-honest real circus, and the name ties it all together and just rolls off the tongue; Ryuk's New World Circus.
I daresay Cirque du Soleil would lose quite a few customers to Ryuk...quite literally, I might add.
Oh, this is amazing! What a brilliant idea! I love Near doing the rubik's cube with his feet! And I love Mello being the fire-breather! All their 'acts' are so symbolical and perfect! When this circus comes to town, I'd go every night!
I have no idea who any of the characters are - sorry, not a fandom I have ever had anything to do with - but that is still one very impressive piece of work. Wonderful job!
