11/14 Short Blather about Copyright and Sharing
hello folks!
Thought I'd blahblah at you guys a bit this morning about one of my pet topics, sharing and copyright on the Internet, in a limited sort of way. Specifically, I wanted to draw your attention to Creative Commons option when we upload art.

Basically anytime you upload something to dA, the default license is one that doesn't allow anyone to do anything with it ever without your express written permission. This includes things like making AMVs, avatars and signatures, even reposting a picture to promote you. Though it's unlikely anyone will follow through, technically doing so without permission is illegal.

Creative Commons doesn't take credit away from you or let people make money off your work if you don't want them to, it simply allows you to legally share your work and let others remix and build on it. Under a CC, anyone who uses your art attributes the original to you, but isn't under the possibility of legal penalty for using it. You control whether or not the license allows people to alter it or use it for commercial purposes.

Anyway, I've been meaning to do this for a while, but I'm lazy. Hopefully in the next few days everything in my fanart galleries will be CC instead of C. I encourage others to consider CC as an option.

hullo there again. i'm back from vacation, as is probably apparent thanks to the recent mass spam of photos i put up. i start grad school in a week and a half or something but hopefully i'll have time to churn out a couple RG's before then. not sure what the courseload will be like, but i'm sure there will be plenty of room for procrastination...the realization that college was pretty much just like all the school i'd attended before has probably ruined my work ethic forever.

anyhow, i'm probably going to my first con this weekend, which is exciting in a scary sort of way...not really sure what to expect but in my experience fan types are pretty friendly so i'm sure my general aversion to mobs of people may be quelled for a short time at least, lol.
